Sharing information on maintenance providers
Starting in 2026, and following the same practice as the S&S Classic Swan Association, we will publish all reports submitted by our members regarding good and poor-quality maintenance providers.
Reports should be concise, factual, include the date and location of the works performed, and be signed by the SCBF member submitting them.
Our association is expanding:
We have new members joining the associatio, in particular two Swan 51 based in Italy. As you know the Swan 51 is the first Swan Classic by Frers ever designed (1981).
The Swan 51 Formosa, is also the 1000th Swan produced.

We have invited the Owner, Matteo Confalonieri, to share some thoughts with us.

Here there his addres to the Members of our association: I believe many (most) of us have similar feelings when engaging with our wonderfu boats, that are more life companions than vessels.
<<Gladly take this opportunity offered by Riccardo and Lodovica, whom I sincerely thank, to briefly share who Formosa is and what she represents to me.
Let me begin with the “bibliography.”
Formosa is a Swan 51F, the very first design by Germán Frers for Swan, and the Swan number 1000 built by Nautor.
For this reason, at her launching, she was named “Fabulous Formosa.”
Launched in 1981, her hull number is not merely a sequential figure marking an extraordinary milestone in the history of the Finnish yard; it signifies far more—especially to me.
It represents the threshold of a story built on discipline, the sea, and endurance, at a time when boats were conceived to span decades, even lives, rather than seasons.
Formosa comes from afar.
She carries with her many hands, silent routes, a history shaped more by coherence than by acclaim.
Those who encounter her do not own her: they recognize her and accept the responsibility of becoming her custodians.
In 2022, the life of the person who chose her changed course.
One chapter came abruptly to an end, and another demanded to be rewritten.
Formosa arrived then like an unexpected pen, the only one capable of tracing new sentences without erasing what had already been written.
She did not enter life as a possession, but as a project to be shared.
A strong, honest shell within which to reassemble the essential pieces of life— not to return to the past, but to give them a new form.
Sailing with Formosa has never been about escape.
It has been about healing while staying.
Facing the sea in order to rediscover proportion, time, and horizon.
Learning that command is not imposition, but listening—to the wind, to the structure, to oneself.
Formosa teaches that haste does not belong at sea, and that what is well built does not ask to be replaced, but to be understood and cared for.
For this reason, she is not inherited like an object.
She is passed on like a lived story.
Because Formosa is not handed over new— she is handed over alive.
And every person who chooses her becomes, for a while, part of her history and of her endless voyage.
It is an honor for me to be part of this story, so close to, yet at the same time so distant from the many stories of other Classic Swan designed by Germán Frers.
And this is why I believe that making her part of the SCBF means allowing her to belong to a constellation of stories— private, unique, and deeply intimate.
This is the story I have chosen to share in order to introduce myself to all of you, with the hope of meeting you in harbors, at sea and along routes we have yet to discover.
Fair winds, Matteo Confalonieri>>

Thanks to the Nautor Team
Last but not least, I would like to thank the Nautor team for warmly welcoming me at their booth in Düsseldorf during boot Düsseldorf 2026, where Swan Classic owners from all over the world gathered and enjoyed great hospitality and coffee! There I had the opportunity to meet German Frers, together with Luisa Bambozzi. We shared some valuable time with him.
Luisa in her capactity of managing director of Swan Club Racing, is supporting our association with incredible passion. We should all thank her for that. If you will join us in Capraia, you will have the chance to meet her in person. Fair Winds Lodovica
